How this project will improve the city

This project will improve pedestrian and cycling safety at the intersection of Main Street and Union Street.  It will also make cycling more comfortable for people of all ages and abilities by connecting the Adanac Local Street Bikeway to the Dunsmuir Viaduct Separated Bike Lane, the Carrall Street Greenway and the Seawall with separated bike lanes and traffic signal upgrades.

Pedestrian improvements are also coordinated with the project.  This includes the opening of the southern crosswalk at the intersection of Main and Union and the introduction of a sidewalk on the south side of Union Street between Quebec Street and Main Street.

The repaving of the 200 blk Union Street will also be coordinated with this construction to improve the roadway surface and to minimize the future disruptions on the street.
